What is the difference between a vaginal moisturizer and a lubricant?

A vaginal moisturizer is used regularly for ongoing dryness. A lubricant is used when needed to reduce friction, often during sexual activity. They serve different purposes, and some people find both useful. Neither is the same as vaginal estrogen treatment. The Menopause Society reference.

The right starting point depends on whether you have day-to-day dryness, discomfort with sexual activity or both. Persistent pain should not simply be covered up with more product; it deserves a conversation about what is causing it.
