Why would a provider prescribe more than one weight-loss medication?

Different medicines may address different parts of the problem. Each medicine should have a useful role, rather than simply adding another prescription.

Phentermine and topiramate can sometimes complement one another. Some patients taking topiramate notice taste changes or reduced appeal of certain foods or drinks. That does not mean it will eliminate a particular craving or stop alcohol or sweet-drink consumption.

If phentermine is tolerated but specific cravings remain difficult, that can be part of the discussion. Benefits, side effects, interactions and cost all matter.
