How is an A1C test different from a blood-sugar reading?
A blood-sugar reading describes glucose at a particular moment. A1C gives an estimate of your average blood glucose over roughly the previous three months. They answer related but different questions. NIDDK A1C explanation.
A single good reading does not necessarily explain a higher A1C, and the tests do not always agree. Some health conditions can also affect how A1C should be interpreted.
