Why might a sick visit end without an antibiotic prescription?

Because an antibiotic is useful for certain bacterial infections, not every illness. It will not treat a viral cold, and unnecessary antibiotics can cause side effects without helping the problem. CDC antibiotic guidance.

Overusing antibiotics also contributes to antibiotic resistance, making bacterial infections harder to treat.

A useful visit can still clarify what is likely happening, what may help and what changes would require reassessment. Not receiving a prescription does not mean your symptoms were dismissed.

MedFIT’s approach is to recommend treatment for a reason, rather than prescribe simply because someone came in feeling unwell.
