Can an over-the-counter cold medicine affect my blood pressure?
Yes. Some cold medicines contain ingredients, including certain decongestants, that can raise blood pressure. Different products sold under the same familiar brand may contain different ingredients. American Heart Association guidance.
Check the actual product rather than assuming that “over the counter” means it fits your health history. A pharmacist or your provider can help review it alongside your prescriptions.
